Fine colorful world globe with glossy-finished wooden stand, in good condition and almost one hundred years old. The globe was made in the 1920s by the German firm Columbus Verlag and has survived to our days in magnificent condition. The surface shows the division of the countries as it appears in the political mapping of the period, with German place names and nations in different colors. The globe also bears the printed parallels and meridians, the geographical features and the ocean currents. At the spheres lower part we can see the printed manufacturers mark with the inscription COLUMBUS ERDGLOBUS (the models name) COLUMBUS VERLARG GMBH BERLIN LICHTERFELDE. There is also a black diamond-shaped cartouche with the names of the cartographers who made the mapping. The COLUMBUS Verlag Paul Oestergaard GmbH is a German company that manufactures maps and world globes. It started out in 1909 after being founded in Berlin by the editor Paul Oestergaard. Today the firm is still a world leader manufacturer of world globes and cartographic material. The company was also famous for manufacturing a 106-cm world globe that belonged to Adolf Hitler and was then considered the biggest serial-produced one in the world. This fine globes paper surface is well preserved except for some unimportant flaws. The maps are complete and the printing is excellent, clear and with no blurred zones. The stand is made of softly-turned beech wood with a nice mahogany tone and a lovely glossy finish. A vertical axe and a brass graduated arch keep the globe in its place. Historic and decorative, this amazing antique world globe is perfect to provide a stylish study, library or living room with a great finish touch. Measurements: Width: 12.2 in / 31 cm. Height: 18.1 in / 46 cm.
