Fine electrical-voltage recorder made by R. Fuess, very well preserved, probably to be used on telegraph lines. This instrument was made in Germany around 1900 and has survived to our days in really good condition. It comes in a beautiful hermetic casing made of mahogany wood and glass panes, and mounts a wind-up movement. The movement works fine. The recorder has a brass roll connected to the wind-up movement that makes it turn. When the wires are connected to the electrical current, the pointer records the voltage variations on the paper. The wooden and glass casing is in optimal condition. At the top of the casing there is a metal plate with the manufacturers name, R. Fuess, and the engraved serial number 2739.Measurements: Width: 9.05 in / 23 cm. Height: 9.05 in / 23 cm. Depth: 6.7 in / 17 cm.R. Fuess History Heinrich Rudolf Ludwig Fuess (1838-1917) was a German mechanical engineer who designed many precision instruments for different fields; he was specialized in meteorology and petrography. In 1865 Fuess founded a workshop in Berlin to manufacture and commercialize his designs. Among other products, the firm made microscopes and blood pressure monitors. In 1875 they started manufacturing optical devices and anemometers too. In 1877 the company bought the firm Greiner &Greissler and began to make thermometers and barometers. Soon R. Fuess was the leading manufacturer of precision meteorological instruments in Germany. In 1913 Paul, Rudolf Fuesss son and business partner, took over the companys management.
