This fine device is an anemometer, an instrument designed to measure the air speed. It comes in its original wooden case and was manufactured in England in the early 20th century, being a quite interesting piece for collectors. The anemometer is in quite good condition and works fine: it can be used just like the first day. As well as a functional item, this instrument is also a beautifully designed piece with all its component parts in good condition. The anemometer comes dismantled and the different parts can be carefully stored in their respective compartments inside the box.The different parts that make up the instruments include an hourglass, a wheel with flat metal sheets, a stand and the air meter dial. The readings are shown in feet per minute and in order to measure the air speed, the dial and the hourglass work together. The dial shows the printed manufacturers name and address: R. BAILEY 14 BENNETS HILL BIRMINGHAM. Under these words we can see the devices descriptive name (AIR METER) and serial number: Nº 1009. Just below we can also see a smaller secondary hand with the letters HDS. printed in it.As stated before, the anemometer comes in its original solid wooden case. This case is a square-shaped oak wooden box that preserves the original brass hinges and lock. Inside its lid we can see a white paper label with a text indicating the devices name (ANEMOMETER), serial number and the number of feet per minute that must be added to the observed reading in order to know the exact air speed (30). There is also an example of how the readings must be calculated, though part of the paper label (and so of the information) is missing.A good collection of vintage measurement instruments will not be complete without such an attractive and well-preserved anemometer.Measurements: Width: 3.1 in/8 cm. Height: 3.1 in/8 cm.
