Antique Exupére Balance with Original Set of Weights. France, Early 20th Century

Antique small-sized balance scale, made of cast iron and with brass pans. The scale was made by Exupére Paris in the early 20th Century and comes with a complete weight set in their corresponding solid-wooden stand. The pieces are very well preserved and make up a highly decorative item, being the perfect piece to be exhibited in a shop or a showcase. The scale is made of black-lacquered cast iron and has an ample and sturdy longitudinal body in whose top we can see the embossed words FORCE and 1KILO. In the middle of the scale, the pointer moves between two nice metal pieces shaped as symmetrical volutes. The balance scales pans are made of brass and remain quite well preserved too. One of them bears the engraved manufacturers name and address: EXUPERE- PARIS 71 RUE DE TURBIGO. We have found the companys name in different items and publications, sometimes under the name Exupére Aubre & Benjamin Successeurs and in some cases as L. Exupére Aubre & George Successeurs. The firm made balance scales and weights in Paris in the early 20th century. Being a piece for commercial use, the small size of the scale suggests that it was used to weigh small quantities of products. The weight set is complete and keeps the original twelve weights. We know this is a commercial item because of the marks that we can see in every weight; these marks were engraved by the trade inspectors in order to guarantee that the weights had not been manipulated. The weights are stored in a solid beech wooden stand with drilled holes of different sizes to put each piece in. The wood is greatly preserved and keeps the original finish.
