Amazing polarimeter made in the first quarter of the 20th century in Vienna, Austria, in very good condition. This delicate instrument for scientific research, a rare and special piece, works perfectly and boasts a beautiful design. It is composed of black-lacquered cast-iron pieces and brass and silvery metal component parts. All the parts and pieces are original, including the glass tube to contain the chemical components. It comes in its original case, made of solid wood and with the lock and the key in perfect working order. The lower iron bar of the polarimeter bears the inscription C. REICHERT WEIN in white lettering, engraved and painted at the left side. To the right we can see the serial number Nº 1858. This inscription corresponds to C. Reichert Optical Company, founded in Vienna in 1876. The firm began with the first American-made microscope by Charles Spencer in 1838. For 150 years they have become a reference in the field of refractometry. Today it is still active under the name of Reichert Technologies. Polarimeters are scientific instruments designed to measure the angle of rotation caused by passing polarized light through an optically active substance, contained in the central glass tube. The article that we can see in the images can be detached from the tripod that is also composed of two independent parts and stored inside the original solid wooden case. The box bears the polarimeters serial number, 1858, engraved by fire at the edge. The case is made of light golden mahogany wood and is also quite well preserved. This polarimeter boasts an impressive condition and an aesthetic that turns it into a rare piece, with a high quality and interest. Measurements: Width: 18.3 in / 46.5 cm. Height: 14.5 in / 37 cm.
