French school telescope made by E. Vion brand in France in the first quarter of the 20th century. This is a really charming article which has survived to our days in very good condition and working order. The telescope comes in its original solid wooden case with an extra lens and eyepiece. It is made of golden brass and black-lacquered metal and has the special feature of keeping the tripods legs into its cylindrical body when this piece is dissembled. The whole set can be perfectly stored into the wooden case, that has surely helped to keep the telescope in such good condition.As stated before, to assemble the telescope and put it on a flat surface we have to take out the legs of the tripods body. In order to do that the piece that closes its bottom edge has to be unscrewed; the legs will appear then, each one into its own hole. After that the closing piece has to be screwed again; this piece has three threaded holes where the legs can be screwed. The telescope can be the attached to the mobile plate located on top of the tripods cylinder. The plate has two screws intended to fix the instrument. This device is designed to be used on a table, considering the tripod small size. According to the instructions that come with the telescope it is a school model designed for teaching.The box where the instrument and the accessories are stored is made of solid wood dyed in a soft brown color. It has dovetail joints and is divided in different compartments to keep the pieces organized. As well as the telescope and its accessories, the case also contains a leaflet with the name of the manufacturing company, E. VION; a drawing of the different parts of the telescope and the instructions for use. E. Vion was a French company that manufactured optical articles, and as the leaflets says was the supplier of material for the French Ministry of War and of Public Instruction, and also for Universities of Sciences and Observatories. This brand made a wide range of telescopes, from small handheld scopes to large refractors for universities. The company exported a lot of its goods to other countries such as the United States until it disappeared during the II World War.This telescopes great charm and its good condition and working order make of it a very special article that any lover of scientific antiques will undoubtedly appreciate.Measurements: Ancho: 745 mm.
