Rare mechanical device used for stylus etching, Eureka brand. This curious article dates from 1915 and was very probably intended for tattooing, considering its slow operating speed. The device is in perfect condition and working order, and keeps all the charm typical of mechanical apparatus from the beginning of the 20th century. It is made in gold-plated metal and some parts have lost their shiny finish due to the trace of time and use. Neverthless, the etcher keeps all the beauty provided by its curious design and old age.At the top of the piece we can see a silvery metal part with the engraved word EUREKA, very probably the name of the devices brand or model. This piece also bears a number, 147, and two capital letters: L and S, that probably indicate the different positions or speed the device operates at. The mechanism keeps all its original parts and gears and its working order is great. When the user winds it, the mechanism starts working and the small stylus located before the metal ring goes forward and backward so it can make tiny punctures. The machines soft and slow operation makes us think that it is probably a tattooing machine, as it is not strong enough such as to engrave metal. This article is small in size and its vintage look provides it with high charm and interest; even more if we consider that it works like the first day of use. Because of all these reasons, we can only say that this wonderful etching device from the early 20th century is an exclusive item, whose original look and curious duty will turn it into an object of desire of any collector of rare and exquisite pieces.Measurements: Width: 95 mm. Height: 135 mm.
