Telefonica Telephone, 40's/50's

Striking Spanish telephone of wonderful presence, made by Telefónica company in the 1940-50s. This is a rare and special piece, as vintage telephones are usually German models and there are very few left from the ones that the Spanish company manufactured in those times. This particular telephone is in great condition and stands out because of its careful design. It is made of black bakelite, soft and shiny, and keeps the original cords and wiring. Nevertheless it has been adapted to be connected to current domestic standard phone lines (non-digital ones), so as well as a very decorative item it is also a completely functional piece.The mouthpiece connects to the telephone through the classic extensible spiral cord. At the front we can see the fine big dialing disk made of transparent plastic, a very common detail of Spanish vintage telephones. The stop-piece is made of silvery metal and is in perfect condition. Under the dialing disk there is a white circle with numbers from 1 to 0 printed in black. Stuck to the center of the disk there is a paper label with a rectangle (designed to contain the hand-written telephone number of the telephones owner) and an inscription: COMPAÑÍA TELEFÓNICA NACIONAL DE ESPAÑA NO GIRAR EL DISCO HASTA OÍR LA SEÑAL PARA MARCAR (Spanish National Telephone Company Do Not Operate the Disk Until Hearing the Dialing Sign).As stated before, the telephone is just like new though all its components are original from the middle of the 20th century. If we turn the device upside down, we will see the metal plate that closes the telephone and protects the inside mechanism. Printed in the golden metal we can see the serial number 5523 EZ and just below, an M letter. The plate has some openings for the insides ventilation and to let out the ring tone, as well as four small plastic legs that balance the telephone on any surface.This telephone is undoubtedly a charming article that can be the perfect gift for a keen lover of design and decoration.
