Convertible Telephone, 40's

German telephone made of black baquelite in the 1940s, in very good condition and working like new. This curious telephone is a very special piece as it is a convertible model that can be put on a horizontal surface of hung on a vertical wall. The intelligent system used to change the kind of telephone is very simple: one just has to change the hooks orientation (the place where you put the mouthpiece in order to finish a call). Depending on how this piece is oriented, the telephone will be put on a table or hung on a wall. As well as this curious feature, this telephone is also of great interest as it is a truly original model from those times, in wonderful condition.The telephone can be easily connected to standard domestic phone lines (non-digital ones) and so be used to make and receive phone calls. This feature turns it into a practical item as well as being a decorative piece. The cord that connects the mouthpiece and the device is the original one and is covered by fabric. The wire that connects the telephone to the line is also original though it has been conveniently adapted. The black bakelite this item is made of is in very good condition, boasting a nice satin polish and with no visible flaws.The dialing disk, located at the front, is also black and works smoothly and fluidly. Through its circular openings we can see the slim numbers printed in white on the black material. The numbers are also printed on the disk itself though smaller in size. Just below the disk there is a small white button that was originally intended to directly connect with the phone operator. If we turn the telephone upside down, in the metal plate that acts as base and protects the inner mechanisms we can see an embossed inscription: W 49 (the model) and also the word POST.This great telephone is a very curious and original item, a hundred per cent authentic and that works just like new. It is the perfect gift for somebody who can appreciate the most elegant decorative objects.
