Edison Standard vintage phonograph, in good condition and perfect working order. It dates from 1901 and comes with ten original cylinders, all of them into their beautiful vintage cases. The first phonograph was developed by Thomas Alba Edison in 1877, and it was a device that transcribed sounds through indentations on a metal cylinder with tin foil wrapped on it. The Edison Phonograph Company was formed in 1887 to market Edison's machine. He introduced the Improved Phonograph by May of 1888, shortly followed by the Perfected Phonograph. The phonograph provides a neat and clear sound, and all its components are original and well preserved. This particular model is a very interesting version of the original device, as it has an adapter which let the phonograph reproduce two-minute and four-minute cylinders. Both the box and the cover that protects the phonograph when it is not in use are made of oak wood. The box has dovetail joints, and attractive and classic carpentry assembling system. The surface shows a nice and warm patina due to the trace of time. The crank has a wooden handle, well preserved and polished. At the front of the box there is a sticker with the name of the model: Edison Standard Phonograph, in very good condition and displaying all the letters and the elegant ribbon they are printed on. The motor is original and so are the reproducer and the horn. The motor is black-lacquered and the gears are made of silvery metal. At the front we can see the engraved inscription TRADE Thomas A. Edison MARK, with the letters painted gold. On the base there is a metal plate which bears an inscription of the different patents and the phonographs serial number: S122531. The horn is made of golden polished brass, and it is as shiny as the first day. This phonograph comes with ten cylinders in their original cases, with the labels printed in beautiful colors and elegant lettering, all of them made by Thomas A. Edison brand. In essence, this is a fantastic piece which joins its great beauty to the ability of playing music, just the way it used to be in the beginning of the 20th century. Medidas: 370 mm ancho x 520 mm alto.
