Original Edison Phonograph, ca. 1900

Amazing antique Edison phonograph, a hundred per cent original and made in the early 20th century (circa 1900). This magnificent and exclusive instrument is in very good condition. It also works perfectly and can reproduce 2 and 4 cylinders just like the first day of use. All its components are original, including the reproducer Model K and the horn, and the phonograph comes with ten Edison cylinders. The big lobed horn is a very remarkable piece: it is made of black-lacquered metal and the nerves are embellished with golden enamel.The phonograph was invented in 1897 by Thomas Alba Edison, who registered the trade mark in order to commercialize his products. Some other inventors had developed recorders before, but not reproducers. Edisons phonograph was the first machine in recording and reproducing sounds on cylinders, and later other manufacturers improved the system until in the early 1900s the record system was invented: it was the beginning of the end for the cylinder system. This turns phonographs into especially charming pieces. This model is also interesting for being a real Edison phonograph, and it has a metal plate attached with the patents, the models name and the serial number 697955D. Edisons name appears again in the elegant golden logo printed at the boxs front. Again, we can see the inventors signature engraved in the black-lacquered iron motor, together with the inscription Trade Mark. The box is made of solid oak wood and the delicate dovetail joins that assemble the four sides are really appealing. The reproduced is the original one: it is Model K and bears an engraved inscription with the serial number and a legend indicating that this reproducer is licensed for use only on Edison phonographs.This Edison phonographs authenticity, beauty and ancient age turn it into a unique piece that any collector or music lover will be proud to own.Measurements: Box: Width: 210 mm.
