This is an amazing phonograph from the late 19th century in perfect working order. It is a Columbia Phonograph made around 1898, with original wooden base and cover and the classical mechanism to reproduce cylinders. This items great beauty joins to its perfect working order that lets the user listen to the cylinders just as when the phonograph was made.American Columbia Phonograph company was the original producer of Edison phonographs and its name is the oldest one in the field of sound recording and reproducing machines. In fact, it was founded in 1888. Columbia Records is currently a subsidiary firm of Sony. It must not be mistaken with Columbia Gramophone Company, established in the United Kingdom and that in the 1950s changed its name for EMI to avoid mistakes. This is an original Columbia Phonograph and its mechanism sits on a solid oak wooden base with beautifully carved edges. Attached to the base there is a metal plate with an embossed inscription in which we find the name of the item (Domestic Gramophone), the country where it was manufactured (America) and its destiny place, London. The serial number 6035 is also engraved in the metal.The protecting cover is also very nice and in real good condition. It is made of oak wood and veneer and boasts a printed golden label depicting a band with the words THE GRAMOPHONE printed on it. We can also read a series of smaller inscriptions with the patents and the companys address in New York. This label is very well preserver and looks as shiny and clear as when it was made. On the other hand, the motor has been revised and adjusted in order to reproduce the cylinders with no problem at all.This great antique phonograph is a real opportunity for a lover of the most special vintage music reproducers.
