Outstanding vintage gilt-silver chalice with enamels and emeralds, made in Milan, Italy circa 1960-70 and with an amazing design and which belonged to the Italian bishop Giuseppe Mancuso. This piece stands out for its aesthetic, as original as beautiful, and remains in great condition. Many qualities embellish this chalice, from the gorgeous enamels which decorate the stem to the emeralds embedded in the node. The foot is hexagonal in shape, ample and quite flat, with no decoration except for the cross which marks the front position. The stem has four pointed arches with colorful enamels depicting the Four Evangelists. The enamels are complete and well preserved. Over them we can see the node, geometrical element of futuristic design adorned with six rectangular emeralds. The cup is inserted in a minimalist subcup, composed of stylized vegetal motifs of different sizes. We can see the hallmarks MI (Milan) and 800 (the silver proportion) in different parts of the chalice. If we turn it upside down, under the foot we will find an engraved inscription: Giuseppe Mancuso Vescovo (bishop). The name corresponds to an Italian bishop who lived between 1902 and 1978. The paten is of some kind of low silver alloy and has no hallmarks, although it tests positive to the acid test. It has a frame in a more intense gold colour as only ornament and is well preserved too. For its quality, good condition and original design, this vintage gilt-silver chalice with enamels and emeralds would deserve to be part of a museum of sacred art or to belong to a priest who appreciates its beauty and its history.
