Genealogical Tree, 1608

Wonderful engraving original from the 17th century that depicts the family tree of the Kings of Asturias and Leon. This work was made in 1608 and keeps the gorgeous original coloring, full of bright and intense tones. The engraving is quite elegant in design, with a vertical composition and many decorative details. All the texts and cartouches are written in Latin and are perfectly organized and linked so the reader can easily follow the order of the successive monarchs and their family links. At the top we can see the title of the engraving: REGES ASTURIAE ET LEONIS. The tree stands majestically, supporting the parchment-shaped cartouches with rolling ends. The scheme is depicted in a very naturalist way: the branches look real and are even adorned with leaves, flowers and tendrils. The tree is depicted in front of a lovely engraving that portraits the city of Ecija: to the left we can see a small cartouche with the citys name. The landscape is beautiful, with a nice drawn and colored river, fine stone walls, red and blue roofs, hills at the background and a bridge that crosses the river and leads the travelers inside the town. The cartouches are golden ochre, with darker shades at both ends that provide them with realism and depth. There is a curious cartouche to the right, bigger in size and in the shape of a deer skin. We can see the dead animals head at the bottom and the hoofs at the corners. On the right side of the engraving there are two colorful coats of arms hanging from their corresponding branches: they are related to Asturias and Leon. If we turn the engraving, at its back we can see a Latin text describing the reigning system of Asturias and Leon in those times.
