It is in really good condition: the black-enameled which covers the metal casing looks shiny, even and uniform, and the red and white paint of the numerals is original and looks fine. The brand name and logo, which can be seen to the left of the digit levers, have been repainted in white this is the only retouch of the machine, being also a very discreet intervention. The calculator can perform the four basic arithmetical operations with perfect results: the white metal mobile parts are finely preserved, with no traces of rust and a soft and fluid mobility which turns their use into a real pleasure. At the back of the machine we can see a riveted metal plate with the embossed distributors name. As fine-looking as functional, this antique Hamann Manus model C calculating machine has survived to our days in excellent condition. Today it is still a wonderful calculator, as well as really charming piece.Hamann Manus Calculators History The Hamann Manus calculator was designed by Christel Hamann, a famous German engineer born in 1870. Hamann was responsible for the development of some of the most popular calculator of the early 20th century: the Hamann itself, the Gauss and the Mercedes Euklid. After World War I the engineer joined the Berliner De Te We (Deutschen Telephonwerke- und Kabelindustrie AG) where he developed a new calculating system that allowed an automatic division. The first machine ever with this kind of mechanism was precisely the Hamann Manus, launched in 1925.
