Great vintage Thales calculator, in perfect working order and quite good condition. This beautiful machine dates from the 1930s, when it was manufactured in Germany by the company of the same name. The calculator has the classic black-enameled iron frame that characterizes many vintage calculating machines. The numbers located beside the operating bars are engraved in the metal and painted in red and white. At the top, the digits over the resulting numbers boxes are enameled in gold. These features make up a highly attractive design, turning this machine into a decorative and functional item.Thales calculators started being produced in 1911, when Emil Schubert, foreman at the Triumphator-Werke, decided to found his own calculating machine company in partnership with L. Haberer. Nevertheless Thales calculators success was due to Max Mueller, a talented businessman. In 1933 Mueller was found guilty of embezzlement and had to leave the company, and only three years later the Nazi party forced Schubert to leave the company without taking his patents with him. After II World War, Max Mueller came back to head the Thales-Werke, this time established in Ratstatt. These ups and downs in the history of the brand turn this Thales calculator in a witness of time, as well as being a lovely machine that still works like new. At the front part, to the left of the levers and the numbers we can see the brands logo in white. At the bottom there is another inscription: AE53175. The calculator stands on a hammer-finished iron base that has four small rubber legs under. The light colored crank is quite remarkable and so are the silvery metal components that in spite of showing slight signs of wear work fluidly and softly, just like when they were initially assembled. This striking Thales calculator will surely be the perfect piece to complete the collection of a good expert in arithmetical machines from the early 20th century.Measurements: Width: 220 mm.
