This desk calculator is a very special and rare piece. It is a Hamman Manus calculating machine model E, manufactured in Germany in the 1950s. The calculator boasts a solid and robust design and its inner mechanism works really well. The machine can perform the four basic arithmetic operationsr. One of the two left keys with white horizontal arrows, the one with the left arrow, doesn't work correctly, but its duty (move the chariot to the left) can be perfectly performed by the bottom central key.The Hamann Manus calculators started being produced in the 1920s following the design developed by Chr. Hamann from Berlin. The inventor provided the machine with the same exterior as the Odhner calculators and he even imitated their dimensions, but the interior mechanism is completely different. The model E that we can see in these images was commercialized from 1948 to 1953. One of its features is that we can read the inscription De Te We engraved in the metal, instead of the initials DTW.The mentioned inscription is on the left side of the machine, just by the digit levers. It is accompanied by the engraved name of the calculator: Hamann Manus. These words are engraved in the metal and painted white. The machines metal casing is covered by a glossy dark green enameled finish in quite good condition. The calculator stands on a solid iron base protected by a dark green lacquer with hammered finish. At the back we can see the serial number 12033 engraved in the metal. This calculator is a collectors piece, rare and interesting. It is a nostalgic and charming machine, and also a decorative and functional piece.
