Antique Winkel-Kosmos Monocular Student Microscope. Germany, Circa 1920

Simple Winkel-Kosmos monocular student microscope, made in Germany circa 1920 and in good condition and working order. This is quite a singular article as it was manufactured exclusively by the German brand Winkel Zeiss for the Gesellschaft der Naturfreunde (Nature Friends Club) created by the Kosmos magazine in Stuttgart. The microscope is part of the series of scientific instruments produced by the magazine (which is still published by Franckh-Kosmos Verlags-GmbH & Co) for the members of the club, which was founded in 1903. The microscope is quite simple, for student or amateur use, and comes in its original solid-mahogany wooden box. It mounts a matt-black metal stand, fixed foot and brass rack-and-pinion systems and screws, all in fine working order. The turret’s supporting piece bears the microscope’s serial number, 10380, printed in golden lettering with the manufacturer’s name (R. WINKEL). The set includes two objectives and two eyepieces made by the same brand.

Any lover of old-time scientific instruments and singular articles will appreciate the charm of this simple Winkel-Kosmos monocular student microscope, a true collector’s piece.
