Amazing antique microscope made in Germany in 1904 by the prestigious trademark Leitz (E. Leitz Wetzlar). It is a real collectors piece because of its beauty and excellent condition. The microscope keeps all its original component parts and is in working order. It comes in a fine solid mahogany wooden case with great dovetail joints. The case also contains two wooden stands for the lenses and the eyepieces (that come in their respective brass sleeves) and a wooden box with sliding lid for the accessories. At the bases back leg we can see the manufacturers name, E. Leitz Wetlzar, and the serial number Nº 77518 engraved in the metal. This inscription tells us that this is a Leitz microscope made by one of the most prestigious optic material manufacturers of the 20th century. In the beginning, the company was founded in Wetzlar (Germany) by Karl Kellner under the name of Optic Institute of Wetzlar. This happened in 1849. In 1865 Enst Leitz began working in the company and in only four years time he took control of the firm and changed its name for Optic Institute of Ernst Leitz. As well as for their magnificent microscopes and lenses, the factory became worldly known because of famous Leica cameras (the market name Leica is an This nice scientific instrument shows off a great design, very typical of the microscopes made in the early 20th century. It has a black-enameled cast-iron base and the top is composed by a series of brass mobile parts and chromed-metal screws. As stated before, the microscope comes with metal sleeves to store and protect the three lenses and spare eyepieces; these accessories can be organized in their respective wooden stands. The mahogany case is also in good condition: the wood is well preserved and keeps the original metal handle lock and key.
