This fine article is an original Seibert microscope, made in Germany in the early 20th century (between 1910 and 1920). The instrument is in really good condition and comes with its original wooden case, where we can also find some accessories and an instruction booklet in German. The microscope has an iron body with bird-foot or horseshoe base, and component parts made of polished brass and chromed metal. Both metals are in excellent condition, with no traces of rust. Moreover, the brass keeps the original transparent protecting lacquer. In the piece that holds the microscopes turret we can see an engraved inscription: Seibert in Wetzlar, with the serial number 14677.This firm was founded in 1867 by Wilhelm and Heinrich Seibert. The company went through many financial problems and was located in Berlin, but in the end it established in Wetzlar. The Seibert brothers were associated with George Krafft until the beginning of the 10th century. In 1917 the manufacturing problems made the company collaborate with the powerful manufacturer Ernst Leitz. After the second Seibert brothers decease in 1925, his son Wilhelm took over the company. He died in 1931 and in 1938 the firm was definitely taken over by Leitz.Seibert microscopes, just like the one we can see in these images, are renowned by their careful making and their precision. This article is a good example of these products quality. The microscope has a three-lens revolving nosepiece and comes with an extra eyepiece, as well as a number of brass and metal sleeves designed to protect the accessories. The microscopes case is made of solid mahogany wood; inside it contains two wooden stands for the pieces and an extra drawer. It preserves the original lock and key, and also the metal handle. The wood is in good condition and the finish that protects it is the original one.This Seibert microscope is a historic piece that can still be used with excellent results.
