This stylized device is a bulls eye light condenser, an ancient article used to give light to the samples and specimens to be viewed through antique microscopes. These condensers were essential in those times when the microscopes did not mount an electrical illumination system, so the user could easily view the samples. The instrument that we can see in the photographs is telescopic and its height can be regulated. It mounts a lens that focus light into the subject. The lens can be used to cast a direct beam on the subject or positioned to lead the light to the mirror and from this to the subject again. If the user wants to broaden a light source so it can illuminate a large area (for example, the microscope mirror), he or she must keep the plane side of the lens towards the microscope. On the contrary, if a small beam of light must be thrown onto the sample, then the user will have to turn the convex side of the lens towards the subject, with the plane side to the light source. Indispensable for the manipulation of antique microscopes, the bulls eye condenser we can see in these images is an original piece in very good condition, worthy of a great collector. Measurements:
