German Leitz Microscope, 1926

This fine vintage microscope is a real museum piece made in Germany in 1926. It was made by Leitz Wetzlar, a brand that has been a synonym of prestige and quality in the field of the manufacture of optic material. The microscope is in quite good condition and works perfectly. It comes in its original solid wooden case and comes with some lenses in their brass sleeves and also with an extra eyepiece. Overall, this article is a great piece more than one hundred years old, fully original and worthy of the best collection.The microscopes turret bears the engraved manufacturers name, Ernst Leitz, and of the German city where the factory was located (Wetzlar). We can also see the instruments serial number: Nº 249435. Ernst Leitz was a Germany engineer that joined the Optical Institute of Karl Kellner,Wetzlar, in the late 19th century. In two years Leitz took over the firm and changed its name by his own. Together with Zeiss Jenna, Leitz Wetlzar was one of the two most famous and prestigious optic material manufacturers of Europe during most of the 20th century. Nowadays Leitz is still active thought it has been divided in various branches that belong to different corporations.The microscope has black-enameled 'bird-claw' foot. The polished brass pieces are in quite good condition and the protecting transparent lacquer that covers them is the original one. The screws and mobile parts can be fluidly and softly manipulated and provide an excellent operation. The lenses and the eyepieces also bear the engraved name of the manufacturer. As for the case, it is made of solid beech wood with mahogany color finish.
