Fine brass graphometer for topographic use made probably in the 1960s. This article is inspired in ancient devices and its decorative look is enhanced by its great working order. The graphometer is composed of different parts, both fixed and mobile, and is used to measure angles in topographical operations. It is made of brass and has a silvery metal scale. All the pieces are well preserved and in working order, and the brass boasts a nice regular golden surface. The graphometer, also known as semicircle, was first described in the 16th century by French scientist Philippe Danfries Déclaration de lusage du graphomètre. The piece we can see in these images is inspired in the original design; some graphometers made in the 19th century had telescopic rather than open sights. This instrument is composed of a semicircular limb divided into 180 degrees that are also subdivided in minutes. It has two scales: a fixed one and a mobile one (alidade), this one fitted in the middle of the circles diameter. Both pieces have open sights at each end, designed to look through in order to measure the angles. In the middle of the diameter there is a compass designed to establish the exact point to which we want to focus the instrument.Solid and beautiful, this vintage graphometer will look great in any stylish room.Measurements: Width: 9.4 in/24 cm. Height: 5.5 in/14 cm.
