This amazing mechanical calculator is a Brunsviga Doppel model D13Z-1, made in Germany in the 1930s. This is a pinwheel calculator whose mechanism is similar to the one patented by Odhner in the 19th century. Prior to the coming of electric calculators, these machines usually mounted these ingenious mechanisms. The calculator we can see in these images is a Doppel model (meaning double in German), composed of two machines that can work together or separately. It is made of black-enameled iron sheet and works perfectly, boasting an excellent condition too. The brand name Brunsviga appeared in 1892, when the German company Grimme, Natalis & Co. bought the German patent rights of Odhner pinwheel calculators. The word Brunsviga is the Latin for Braunschweig, the city where the factory was located. The calculators under this market name became immensely popular and were produced until the early 70s. This particular machine bears the name BRUNSVIGA engraved in the metal and painted white in the two bodies, each with its corresponding circular metal plate with the logo of the brand. In the left bottom corner the Word BRUNSVIGA is accompanied by the calculators serial number: 216549. To the right, the brand is engraved over the manufacturer companys name. And at the back of the machine we can see again this market name in white lettering together with a metal plate with the name and address of a German official distributors. The machine shows off an impressive presence, solid, robust and reliable; it works greatly and it is a real pleasure to perform with it the four basic arithmetic operations. This Brunsviga Doppel calculator is an attractive piece that will delight every lover of vintage mechanical devices. Measurements: Width: 16.9 in/43 cm. Length: 6.4 in/16.5 cm.
