This gorgeous desktop machine is a Precisa-117 mechanical calculator, made in Switzerland in the 1960s. This is a keyboard calculator with a nice vintage look, well preserved and working perfectly. The calculator keeps all its original component parts and can perform the four basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This particular model mounts a metal case with hammered grayish-green and pale-blue finishes and silvery-metal mobile parts. At the front of the calculator, to the right we can see a metal plate with the engraved word Precisa. This word (Spanish for precise or accurate) refers to the company of such name, founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1935. The company manufactured a wide array of calculator, printing and non-printing models, and kept on active until the late 70s. In 1964 they merged with the Hermes typewriter company and the firm was called Hermes-Precisa International. Currently, the Precisa company is still in business and produces precision laboratory balances. This particular model is inspired in the Facit TK calculator, an ingenious machine designed by Karl Rudin that was launched in 1936. It was the beginning of the end of pinwheel calculators and the arrival of keyboard machines. The design that we can see in these images is compact and attractive, with a lovely combination of colors full of vintage charm. The red and black keyboard is made of plastic material and remains in great condition. At the back of the calculator we can see a sticker with the companys name and location in Zurich. Every fan of vintage pieces and mechanical calculators will recognize a quality piece in this rare Precisa calculator.
