Nice Schubert Calculator. Germany, 1940s.

Great German Calculator Schubert Model Masquinen-Nr, 40's. Beautiful and pristine calculator with original black lacquered case with different numbering registers. It is a very beautiful machine aesthetically, with the levers and registers in gold color, and the crank in yellow color. Its mechanism is based on a toothed wheel that can show more or less teeth depending on the position of a lever. It has a silver plaque on the back with the name of the manufacturer Schubert, the model: Masquinen-Nr and the serial number: DRV-168972. On the front it has the logo with the name of the brand: Shubert, with a decorative yellow lettering. It is revised and in perfect working condition; as if it was just bought. This type of machines are objects for science lovers. They have their origin back in the XVII century, when the first adding machines were built, characterized by using an operation based on gears, which arise to alleviate the work activity of those people dedicated to accounting work. This type of machines were already much admired at the time, based on a system devised by Willigodt Odhner, the variant of the one developed by Leibniz in the 18th century. The German brand Schubert manufactured this type of mechanical calculator of manual action by digit displacements, based on the variable teething wheel or Baldwin-Odhner during the 1940s and 1950s. The pinwheel was invented at about the same time by Frank S. Baldwin in the USA and Willgodt T. Odhner in Europe. Although Baldwin patented it a little earlier, Odhner was also able, after many disputes, to register his patent. Compared to the previous architectures, with larger and separate parts, the "pinwheel" is characterized by being much flatter, which allows them to be placed in parallel (see photo), thus making this type of machine much more compact. A functional and at the same time aesthetically very beautiful piece, perfect for the showcase of a mathematics lover!
