They have their origin back in the 17th century, when the first adding machines were built, characterized by using a gear-based operation, which arose to alleviate the work activity of those people engaged in accounting work. This type of machines were already much admired at the time, based on a system devised by Willigodt Odhner, the variant of the one developed by Leibniz in the 18th century. The house Brunsviga manufactured from 1892 calculators under Odhner's licenses. Its engineer Trinks began to greatly improve the original design from this machine, highlighting the fineness of its operation. Successive models would be developed, expanding the technical features and adapting to the functional needs of society as time and technology progressed. In the post-war period, industrial design was applied to these devices for the first time, developing technologically advanced models at high prices. It is amazing to see the internal complexity of one of these mechanisms, and the smoothness and precision with which they work. Incredible collector's item for a true nostalgic of mathematics in the age of technology.
