This type of machines are objects for science lovers. They have their origin in the XVII century, when the first adding machines were built, characterized by using a gear-based operation, which arise to alleviate the work activity of those people engaged in accounting work. The Walther company was founded in 1886, when the founder Carl Walther set up a gunsmith's business in Thuringia. By 1908 it was already a company with a worldwide reputation. The company survived the war of 1914-18, and later the great economic crisis. In 1924 the company decided to introduce calculating machines to expand the product line into civilian areas. Walther's first calculator was a hand-cranked example based on the Odhner design. They would be a great success, and in 1939 the brand produced up to 17 different models, with exports of them to many countries. During the Second World War it would concentrate on the manufacture of weapons, but without ceasing to innovate in terms of calculator models. The first post-war calculator was another very successful pin-wheel machine, which was improved over the years. They continued to manufacture during the 1960s accounting machines, optical print character recognition systems and data collection systems for computer processing. A superb machine to expand a collection or why not...to start one!
