Original Lipsia Calculator, 1914. Magnificent calculating machine supported on a silver base with four legs, and black lacquered casing with different front numbering registers in white. It is well preserved aesthetically and technically, it works perfectly. It has some scratches on the casing, witnesses of the passage of time and that it is a totally original machine. Machine equipped with a crank mechanism or windlass that can be seen on the right side. The numbers in white enamel and the levers are in good condition, making this machine a very beautiful piece aesthetically. In the upper front part it has the logo with the name of the brand: LIPSIA, with a decorative white enamel lettering. Also, in the back it has a small black rectangular plate with the name of the distributor. It is revised and in perfect working condition. This type of machines are objects for science lovers. They have their origin in the XVII century, when the first adding machines were built, characterized by using a gear-based operation, which arose to alleviate the work activity of those people engaged in accounting work. The Lipsia brand was founded by the engineer Otto Halzapfel in Leipzig (Germany). Otto worked in the Thimphator factory from its foundation in 1904, but in 1914 he became independent and founded the Lipsia company. From 1926 onwards, he was responsible for the manufacture of small portable machines of the pascaline type under the brand name Addi. The Lipsia calculating machine was of the Odhner type. Its main characteristic in the first models was mainly its small size: 33 x 14 x 14 x 14 and its reduced weight: 3.5 kg. It was a very appreciated machine in the German market, mainly because of its robustness and reliability. A large number of models were manufactured until 1952, when the factory closed, after 38 years of manufacturing great calculating machines.
