Beautiful Archimedes Calculator No. 3, 1913, Works Perfectly.

This elegant and sober calculator is an Archimedes Nº 3 and was made in 1913. It is quite remarkable because of its solid and rectangular shape, and its keyboard (with circular pressing keys) is also very special. This fine calculator is in good condition and works very well, just like new. Its functionality is a feature which, together with its beautiful lines and its age, turns this item into a magnificent vintage piece from the beginning of the 20th century. The machine is painted black, and the paint is quite well preserved except for the logical signs of wear, due to the trace of time. The keyboard is on the right, beside the crank, and the machine sits on four circular metal legs. The keyboard is composed of several rows of circular keys in black and white (with black and white numbers in contrast). Instead of the pinwheel system typical of the calculators of those years, this original model has a keyboard composed of pressing-down keys. The numbers appear in some round holes located in three horizontal rows, over the keyboard, and under them there are the corresponding scaled metal plates. These plates have beautiful brass pointing arrows, than can be moved to both sides. On the right side of the calculator we can see the original metal crank with black bakelite knob, which is in great condition. If we turn the machine upside down, we can see the mechanism that operates the keyboard and the numbers. The pieces and gears, made of brass and silvery metal, are original and in perfect condition and working order: there is no one missing. The mechanism works perfectly and the machine can be used like new. This calculator from the beginning of the 20th century is a first-class antique, as attractive as curious, and can be the perfect piece to round off a good collection of antique calculators.
