Complete German calculator made in 1920 by Thales brand. It is the popular Model A by Thales. The machine is in very good condition, preserving all its original components and housed into its wooden case. It is attached to a solid wood board which connects to the cover, made of curved veneer. On one of its sides, the cover keeps the original metal handle and lock, which can be operated with the smart original key. The lock is adorned by a beautiful silvery metal keyhole, engraved with Art Déco motives. The wood and the metal are both in very good condition. The calculator is made of black-lacquered metal with lettering in high relieve painted white and numbers in white and red. We can see the logo of Thales brand. This company was founded in Rastatt, Germany, by Emil Schubert, which was formerly working for Triumphator-Werk brand. In 1911, Thales began making calculating machines based on the pinwheel system; model A (the calculator here shown) was among the most popular ones. The machine is in very good condition and works perfectly, as new. The black paint is in good condition and almost without signs of wear, while the metal gears are polished and new, with no signs of pitting. The same can be said about the paint of the numbers, so well preserved that seems new, and about the bakelite pieces. The base board is made of solid varnished wood, and looks shiny and polished, just like the cover. The excellent preservation of this machine, the fact that it keeps its original case and lock and the history of the model and the brand, turn this calculator into an interesting piece from the beginning of the 20th century and a beautiful decoration object, a hundred per cent authentic and original. Measurements: Width (base board): 345 mm. Height: 110 mm.
