This beautiful antique microscope is a real Leitz Wetlzar design, a piece worthy of a museum in very good condition. The microscope was made in 1922 by the prestigious German company and still works perfectly, letting the user watch the samples. It comes in its solid wooden case with the original lock and key in perfect working order. The microscope comes with an extra eyepiece and a tool kit for preparing the samples. The microscopes brass turret bears the manufacturer`s name engraved in its metal surface: Ernst Leitz Wetlar, together with the instruments serial number, Nº 209077. The name is also engraved at the top of the black-lacquered iron foot and in the objectives. The famous optic material and equipment manufacturer started out when Carl Kellner founded the Optical Institute of Wetzlar in 1849. After two decades, the former employee and the associated Ernst Leitz took control of the firm and changed its name for Ernst Leitz Wetlzar. During the 20th century the firm became one of the most relevant companies in its field, being also the place where Leica cameras were designed and produced. This gorgeous microscope is a good example of the quality of the Leitz products. It has black-enameled bird-foot claw and the rest of the component parts are made of golden brass and silvery metal. They are all in very good condition and the brass preserves the original transparent lacquer. On the other hand, the case is made of a fine light-colored golden wood with nice dovetail joints in the corners and preserving the original brass handle. A Leitz Wetzlar design should not be missed in a good collection of antique microscopes. This particular one is an piece to be treasured. Measurements: Width: 7 in / 18 cm. Height: 12.5 in / 39 cm.
