Beautiful antique golden-brass microscope, signed Chatelain and in good condition and working order. The microscope was made in Paris in the late 19th century (circa 1880) and preserves all its original component parts and pieces. It comes with two eyepieces, three lenses and a glass magnifier, and is stored into the original mahogany wooden case. The microscope preserves the original transparent lacquered finish and shows off the delicate patina that usually covers turn-of-the-century brass instruments. The microscope bears a fine hand-engraved inscription with the manufacturers name and addres: Chatelain 51 rue Bisson PARIS. The stage for the sample plates is made of black-lacquered iron and preserves the clips that keep the plates in place in order to be watched. Under the stage we can see the double oscillating mirror, original from the period and in good condition. All the mobile parts move softly and fluidly, and this is the reason why the microscope is so functional and nice to use. The mahogany wooden case where the microscope is stored is a magnificent piece too. The solid wood boasts a dark reddish color and remains in really good condition. It preserves the brass hinges, the shutting hooks and the original lock. The lock comes with its key and both work perfectly. Inside the case there are some wooden pieces that keep the microscope stable and safe. The accessory set that comes with the instrument (the lenses with their brass sleeves, the eyepieces and a pack of glass plates for the samples) can also be easily stored into the case. Fine and functional, this wonderful antique Chatelain microscope is a real collectors piece that exudes personality. Measurements: Width: 5.1 in / 13 cm. Height: 11.2 in / 28.5 cm.
