Bryson Compound Microscope, Scotland, Ca. 1880

Amazing antique Bryson compound microscope, made in Scotland in the late 19th (circa 1880). The microscope is in very good condition and works fine. It comes in its original solid wooden case, also quite well preserved and with the original lock and key. Together with the microscope, the wooden box also stores a complete accessory set with two eyepieces, two lenses and a magnifying glass. In general, this is a state-of-the-art piece worthy of inclusion in the collection of the most prestigious science museum. The microscope mounts a cast-iron base composed of a flat horseshoe-shaped piece and two side supports that connect it to the rest of the instrument. The base is quite an original element as instead of the classic black-lacquered finish it is covered by an olive green paint. The microscopes component parts and pieces are made of brass and preserve the original transparent protecting lacquered finish, a fine detail that provides the metal with a lovely patina. The microscopes turret bears the engraved manufacturers name, BRYSON EDINBURGH. Embededd in the iron base there is a brass plate with the manufacturers name and city of location delicately engraved in the metal. As stated before, the microscope comes with an accessory set with lenses, eyepieces and a magnifying glass. These accessories can be stored in their respective wooden supports attached to the box. The box itself is made of solid light-colored mahogany wood; it is in good condition and preserves the original grass handle. Inside there is a small wooden drawer with compartments to store the sample plates and other utensils. Fine and delicate, this antique Bryson compound microscope is a real collectors piece with all the charm of turn-of-the-century scientific instruments. Measurements: Width: 8.6 in / 22 cm.
