Great antique stereoscopic microscope for dissections, made in England in 1948 by W.R. Prior & Co. This is a very special instrument that stands out for its big size and attractive design. The microscope remains in excellent condition and works really fine. It is bound to be used with big pieces and also very small samples. It comes with the original mahogany wooden case, well preserved and with the original silvery metal handle. The case bears the serial number 10360 clearly engraved in the wooden surface; this number is also present in the microscope. This instrument is powerfully remarkable for its curious design, contemporary and functional. It is made of black-enameled iron and boasts a shiny regular finish in very good condition. The sample plate is made of thick glass and the side wings (designed for the user to put on his or her hands while working) are made of mahogany wood. The eyepiece bears the stated serial number and the logo with the inscription PRIOR LONDON engraved in the metal. The firm W.R. Prior & Co. was founded in London in 1919. It is still active as Prior Scientific (www.prior.com) and is based in Cambridge, England. They are specialized in precision mechanical engineering, optics, electronics and precision assembly. The business has diversified towards the production of microscope automation systems and pieces for other manufacturers. The microscope preserves the adjustment rack in good condition and provides a clear vision of the samples. It comes with three lenses and an eyepiece set. The mahogany wooden case shows outside some slight signs of the trace of time, but it is otherwise quite well preserved. It bears delicate dovetail joints, sturdy and fine, that guarantee its solidity. Inside the door we can see a sheet with the guarantee; it includes the handwritten microscopes serial number, manufacturing date and the person responsible. For its amazing and stylish design and its great condition, this antique English W.R. Prior & Co. microscope deserves an honor place in the most special collection. Measurements: Width: 20 in / 51 cm. Height: 16.15 in / 41 cm.
