Antique Nachet Microscope Model Moyen nº 9. France, Circa 1890

Beautiful antique Nachet microscope model Moyen nº 9, made in France circa 1890 and in very good condition. The microscope is in fine working order, can be used and comes in its original storing case, well preserved and with the original lock and key. It comes with two small cases, one with 3 eyepieces and the other with 2 lenses. It also includes a box with old simples and a magnifying glass (the piece which connects it with the microscope is missing). The microscope is made of brass and preserves the original protecting lacquer. The metal is greatly preserved and looks polished and shiny. At the foot we can see the manufacturers name, NACHET ET FILS, and the address engraved in a stylish cursive lettering. This is a very rare model which includes a fine-tuning system; the mechanism is complete, though it seems to be clogged. Probably it will be operative again after being submitted to a professional cleaning. In the beginning, Nachet made lenses for the famous microscope maker Chevalier; but soon he opened his own microscope workshop in Rue Serpente 16, Paris. His first instruments had the same design as popular drum microscopes made by other manufacturers. In the mid-19th century (circa 1850) Nachet was succeeded by his son Alfred and the company was renamed Nachet et Fils. Nachet was once considered one of the three leading microscope and lens manufacturers of Paris, together with Chevalier and Oberhauser.
