Original vintage Thorens music box, made in Switzerland in the 1980s and in very good condition. The box works fine: the comb is complete and comes with nine tunes in individual Thorens records, all of them original from the period. The good sound of this music box matches perfectly the Swiss companys prestige; their products are always related with the highest quality regarding audio equipment. The box is made of solid wood and has a rectangular shape; its design reminds us of medieval chests. The music box is made of beech wood with a dark walnut finish. The finish remains in good condition and shows no signs of wear, scratches or dents. The sides and the lids are flat and bear no decoration at all, while the front side is divided in four quadroons with milled vertical shapes. The design is sober, simple and balanced, perfect for every style of decoration. But surely the most interesting part of this music box is its inner movement: it bears the engraved Thorens logo (a Swiss cross with an anchor inside) with the inscription SWITZERLAND - FABRICATION SUISSE. The movement has been thoroughly overhauled in order to guarantee an optimal working order. Elegant and discreet, this vintage Thorens music box will fill any space with its nostalgic sound. Their phonographs, gramophones and turntables they have been producing from the late 19th century to our days are worldwide renowned. In 1883 Hermann Thorens registered the family business in Saint-Croixe, Switzerland; the company then made and sold music boxes and clock movement (that were still being produced in the 1950s). In 1903 they launched their first Edison-type phonographs and in 1828 produced their first electric (motor-drive) record player. During the 1950s and 60s, Thorens made and sold high-end turntables which are still regarded as high-end audio equipment, and are much sought-after. Nowadays Thorens continues to manufacture amazing record players for vinyl and 78rpm gramophone records.
