Great Antique Music Box. Double Comb. With 14 Discs. Switzerland, 1890.

Antique big-sized music box with double comb, made in Switzerland in 1890 and in excellent working order. The box comes with 14 13.5-in disks original from the time; the mechanism includes a double-comb system in perfect condition which generates a sublime, clean and neat sound. The solid wooden casing preserves the original satin finish in excellent condition, with no restoration at all. It is made of solid walnut wood and shows a gorgeous diamond-shaped veneered decoration and includes marquetry work. The casing also has four turned corner pillars and hand-milled moldings. The music-box lid shows off a delicate handmade marquetry detail depicting a light-colored bouquet. It is made with lemongrass wood on a walnut background. The motif is in strikingly good condition and preserves all its original charm. The boxs sides are covered with burl-walnut veneer and so is the inner side of the lid. All the wooden surfaces, including the inside ones, boast the lovely original French-polish finish that increases the beauty of the noble wood. Inside the lid, the walnut veneers frame a charming old-time photographs depicting a group of small kids that make up an allegory of music on a bucolic background. The photograph is in great condition and bears a stylish black frame with a golden line. The mechanism is protected by a glass and wooden lid located just under the boxs lid. The glass makes it possible to see the mechanism playing the disk, protecting them from the dust at the same time. The music box preserves the original pull too; it is a small delicate piece made of silvery metal and shaped like a lions face holding a ring with its mouth. On the other hand, at both sides of the box we can see brass handles decorated with embossed volutes. The charm of the late-19th-century sound joins the lovely design of this antique big-sized music box, making up a first-class and really stylish piece. Measurements: Width: 22 in / 55 cm.
