Fine Continental Standard typewriter, a real classic from the early 20th century that was manufactured in Germany in 1915. The machine boasts a very attractive design, really impressive with its cast-iron body covered by a shiny black-lacquered finish and an eye-catching front label depicting the factory where these pieces were made. It works really fine, with a clear and neat letter. The only piece that could show a slight malfunctioning is the right margin: when the chariot reaches the end the bell rings, but the chariot does not stop. Nevertheless this is a minimal detail that does not interfere in the pleasure obtained when typing documents. This beautiful item was manufactured by Wanderer-Fahrradwerke, a factory that made bicycles and sewing machines founded in Siegmar-Schonau (Germany) in 1904. When the manufacturer started producing typewriters the demand increased rapidly and in a few years became a leading company in Europe. The business grew until World War I, when the production was halted. In between wars the company restarted making typewriters and launched new portable models. World War II stopped the production again, and after the content Continental typewriters did not get back their prestige and their quality began to decay. This led to the disappearance of the factory. This amazing Continental Standard typewriter is a good example of the mentioned quality, and it has survived to our days in excellent condition too. The keyboard is composed of circular pieces with black background, white letters and chromed framing rings. Over the keyboard we can see the big sticker with the factorys image in nice sepia tones, bearing the inscription CONTINENTAL WANDERER WERKE AG. CHEMINTZ. The iron plate covered by the label can be opened to discover the key levers. Inside the gap we can see the typewriters serial number engraved in the metal: 76669. This Continental Standardrs solid and amazing design is a good proof of the beauty of vintage typewriters from the early 20th century. They were real works of art of pioneer technology.
