Antique brass microscope, very rare and original, made in Germany in the early 20th century (circa 1900). This is a very special item because of its rarity and it seems to be designed to view tridimensional articles. The small brass arms located under the objective are probably meant to hold small articles such as plants, insects, pieces of different materials The microscope is a very attractive piece, with a highly stylish and functional design. All its parts and components are original and it is in very good condition. It can be used to view samples just like when it was first manufactured. At the brass turret, just under the eyepiece we can see an engraved inscription that reads Emil Busch A. Rathenow. This stands for a prestigious optical manufacturing company whose origin dates back to 1792, when Johann Heinrich August Duncker began making and selling optical instruments in Rathenow (Germany). When his son Eduard Duncker took over the company, he sent his nephew Emil Busch to Berlin for apprenticeship in optics in order to take him on later. In 1845 Busch took over the company himself and in 1872 the Optische Anstalt Rathenow became the Emil Busch A.G. This firm got its optical glass from Zeiss thanks to the commercial agreement between both companies. After the World War II the firm dissapeard and the East-German government founded the VEB Rathenower Optische Werke and the VEB Augenoptik "Hermann Duncker" instead. The microscope has an electrical light system in fully working order. The wires that connect the bulbs and the transformer have been substituted for new ones with a vintage look in order to provide a correct operation. The rest of the pieces are original from the early 1900s. So if we plug in the cable the bulbs will turn on providing a bright light from both sides, perfect to correctly illuminate the samples. The microscope comes with various accessories: eyepieces and a big-sized magnifying glass. This striking and rare vintage microscope will be the starring piece in any good collection of optical instruments from the 20th century.Measurements: Width: 270 mm. Height: 480 mm.
