This exceptional instrument is a binocular microscope made in the United Kingdom in the 1960s. This article was made by prestigious company James Swift & Son, whose name is printed in the plate attached to the eyepiece component. The microscope has a four-lens revolving nosepiece and is in perfect working order so it can be used to view samples with complete reliability. The instrument boasts a solid design and an iron frame covered by with a sand-colored hammered finish; nice and functional, it is a highly interesting piece for any collector of vintage scientific pieces.James Powel founded his company in East London 1853, and in 1884 his son Mansell James joined it. The firm acquired then its final brand name. During the 20the century, Swift microscope became very popular thanks to their quality, especially in the United Kingdom. Mansell James died in 1942 and his father James died a day later, probably from the shock of his sons decease. Then E. R. Watts & Son Ltd took control of the company and kept on developing microscopes until 1968. All this microscopes components are original and remain perfectly preserved. The four-lens revolving nosepiece is especially remarkable. The red switch at the base turns on a light located under the sample plate; the bulb provides light enough for the correct watching of the samples. At the microscopes base we can see a rectangular metal plate with the companys name in green capital letters (SWIFT), its location (BASINGSTOKE ENGLAND) and an almost faded logotype. The companys name is also printed in a plate attached to the eyepiece component. In this case the description is longer: on the silvery metal there is a black inscription that reads JAMES SWIFT & SON LTD. JOULE ROAD BASINGSTOKE HANTS. Under these words we can also see the companys telephone number. This great vintage microscope boasts a wonderful working order and a great condition. They are reason enough to consider it a piece worth of the best collector.Measurements: Width: 260 mm. Height: 360 mm
