Stunning big-sized antique music box made of ebony-finished wood and with fine marquetry motives decorating the cover and the front side. The box is an authentic old-time piece made in the United States circa 1900. It is wonderfully restored and boasts an outstanding beauty, being also in working order. Though in the early days the music box could play six tunes, today the pin drum is slightly damaged and only four of them can be played. These four tunes sound beautifully, creating lovely and charming melodies. The box is made of solid wood with an ebony-like finish inside in great condition. The front side is covered of different wood veneers with a delicate handmade marquetry motive in the center. The motive depicts a mandolin with a flowery garland. The covers marquetry is more complex: as well as the mandolin and the flowers, we can also see two flutes, a clarinet and some musical scores. Both motives are made with a surprising precision which reveals the hand of a talented artist. The wood veneers and the marquetry are enhanced by the fine French-polish finish, bright and warm. The other three sides of the music box are decorated with a faux rosewood finish, greatly performed and in great condition too. Inside the box and protected by a glass lid we find the amazing movement which keeps the complete comb and includes a double string. Inside the cover there is a fine paper sticker with the handwritten tunes titles. The music box preserves the original side handles which boast a fine design shaped as a classic lyre. For its magnificent sound and wonderful look, this huge antique music box deserves to shine in the most visible place of a stylish dining room. Measurements: Width: 25.5 in / 65 cm. Height: 7 in / 18 cm.
