Antique German Symphonion Music Box from 1890. With Discs, Working Perfectly.

Charming antique Symphonion music box made in Germany in 1890, probably for the French market. This box is a truly original piece from those times and is in excellent working order. It comes with a lot of metal disks with different tunes that can be played in the box just like the first day of use. The box sounds wonderfully and provides a quality sound. This article has a double comb mechanism; the combs are complete and do not lack any tong or piece. The rest of the motor is made of brass and silvery metal and all its components are in good condition, with no traces of rust or visible flaws.The box is square-shaped and sober in design. It is made of black-lacquered wood and preserves its original finish. The lid is decorated with some stickers that make up an intricate and beautiful romantic decoration. There is a circular motive which covers most of the surface which bears a shield in the center. Around this motive there are more shields and a classical image of a reclining woman. The four corners of the lids are embellished with triangular motives with heraldic designs and a lot of volutes and details.This decoration is mostly golden color and is in good condition except for the center part. The two wooden planks that make up the lid join precisely in this point, and with the trace of time they have separated slightly opening a slim aperture. The central circle has also some slight bumps where the decoration and the lacquer are missing; it is up to the boxs owner to restore it and recover its original splendor, or maybe leave it as it is, with its charming antique look. Symphonion Musikwerke was a company founded in 1885 by Paul Lochmann. Together with Polyphon it became one of the biggest music box producers in the world. The brand made music reproducers until the late 1920s, when it finally disappeared.This lovely antique music box will fill with charm any room, thanks to its great look and quality sound.Measurements: Width: 310 mm.
