Antique solid-silver pocket watch with rare Duplex type escapement, made in Switzerland circa 1870 for the Chinese market and in good condition. This beautiful watch is a ship's Captain model in excellent working order. The case is a this is a two leaf, Solid silver case with a silver ovoid push button pendant, with double spherules and oval bow placed at the twelve position relative to the dial. The pendant is marked with the Neuchatel hallmark which identifies silver in the Swiss province of Neuchâtel. The back cover is also solid silver and the inside of the cover is marked with the same Neuchatel hallmark, case number 570, and the Chinese stick figures, same as found on the movement. The white enamel round dial includes two small subsidiary symmetrical dials for two additional time zones, each with Roman hour chapter ring, open bar minute track and steel Continental type Spade hands. Above the six we can see a subsidiary dial for jumping constant seconds. It has its fourleaf-clover blued-steel hands and counterbalanced center seconds pointer.The watch mounts a Jacot-type Chinese duplex escapement with highly and fully ornamented plates, full of arabesques and foliate engraved gilt "Chinese" Tixier caliber, shaped single wheel bridge, free-standing barrel, three-arm monometallic balance with blued steel winged weights (also known as crab legs), blued steel flat balance spring and index regulator. We can see the same engraved mark adjacent to the third wheel, as one sees on the inside of the cover.This antique solid-silver pocket watch with Chinese-type movement with Duplex escapement stands out for its exotic character, its quality and its undeniable elegance.Dimensions: Width: 55 mm.
