This fine pocket watch is both a jewel and an antique, as it is more than one hundred years old. It is made of solid silver, comes from Germany and dates from 1920. The front cap is decorated with a motive that simulates crocodile skin that has been performed by means of a technique known as niello. It is a black mixture of copper, silver and lead sulphides that is inlayed on engraved metal, commonly silver. The artisan first makes the gaps in the metal surface and the pours the black mixture inside them. This wonderful technique is believed to have been born in Ancient Egipt, and afterwards it spread through the world and was especially appreciated in Europe during the Middle Age. In this watch the nielloed surface is black and the decoration reminds us of reptile skins or ceramic mosaics. It is a very nice Art Deco design, quite advanced for its time and that turns this piece into a very special jewel. In the center of the front cap, a flat shield waits to be engraved with the owners initials. The box is made of solid silver, and the hallmarks engraved inside the caps testify for its quality and origin. Under the marks we can also see the serial number: 86753. The front cap hides and protects a lovely white face with clear black Arab numbers, stylized brass hands and a secondary hand. If we open the rear cap, where we can see some engravings of medals awarded to the watchmaker and interesting data about the movement, we will reach this one and will see the delicate gears and the rubies that make it work perfectly. This pocket watch is a very decorative and original item and its timeless elegance turns it into a stylish accessory, perfect for any occasion.Measurements: Width: 54 mm. Height (with crown and ring): 67 mm.
