Antique minute repeater 18K gold pocket watch, signed by Perret & Berthoud and made in Switzerland circa 1920. The watch is finely preserved and stands out for its elegant and sober design, as well as its quality movement. It works fine and remains in great condition. The outer case is made of 18-carat matt gold, while the dustcap is made of polished gold too. Both bear the hallmarks which testify for the metals quality and the engraved serial number 114428 too. The dial is white, with black Arab numerals and elegant cobalt-blue straight hands. It shows the printed brand name Perret & Berthoud, which we can also see engraved in the dustcap. Perret & Berthoud started as a watchmaking company in 1894, founded by Numa Emil Descombes and Ulysse Perret under the original name Universal Watch. After descombes passed away, in 1897 Perret changed its name for Perret et Berthoud. In 1919 he would again rename the firm as Perret & Berthoud, the name which we can see in the watch we are talking of. In 1933 a new name is chosen, Universal Watch Co. Ltd. Geneve; this Brand would later be aknowledged for the great quality of their watches. Actually, the beautiful and the excellent performance of this wonderful watch are a clear example of such quality.
