Very Antique Onion Verge Pocket Watch. Cayot. France, Circa 1700

Very antique onion-type verge pocket watch by Cayot, made in France circa 1700 and in good working order. Though being such an ancient piece, it is very well preserved and looks really beautiful. The gilt-metal case is delicately and skillfully engraved by hand; we can see a symmetrical motif on a punctured background covering the rear side, stylish and subtle. The dial is made of silver and is also adorned with hand-engraved motifs: Roman numerals, fringes and two symmetrical fish at the center, flanking the inscription Cayot – Paris. It mounts an only gilt-metal hand to mark the hours, typical of very antique watches. The glass is synthetic and is not of the period. The delicate movement is well preserved and bears the name of the manufacturer engraved in cursive lettering. The beautiful wheel is adorned with a beautiful balance bridge, engraved symmetrical fish or sea monsters, similar to those at the dial. The watch is accompanied an original antique key.

This very antique onion-type verge pocket watch by Cayot is a real museum piece, an exclusive item worthy to belong to a self-respected collector.
