Gorgeous antique verge-fusee pocket watch with two silver cases, made by Ellicot, London circa 1770 and in good working order. This is quite a stylish article, with a sober design and a beautiful hand-engraved decoration. The cases do not bear hallmarks, but it has been acid tested and proven to be silver, and a written document guaranteeing this is provided. Inside the outer case we find a piece of paper with the name of the shop where the watch was once sold, or where it was repaired at some point, property of Alex Sutherland, watchmaker and jeweler. The white dial has black Roman numerals and fine gilt hands. The movement is profusely decorated with hand-engraved motifs, with a faun’s face standing out. It also bears the signature Ellicot, London and the serial number 117. This is a very low number, which indicates that the watch was one of the first ones of this model made by the maker.
