Antique Chinese Fan in Decorated Lacquered Wood. Gilded Chineries. XIX Century

Antique Chinese lacquered-wooden fan, decorated with golden chinoiserie motifs and made in the 19th century. This fine article is entirely original from the time and remains in quite good conditions. Overall the fan looks complete and flamboyant, though one of the sticks shows a tiny fissure at the top. The ribbon which connects the sticks is still partly functional, but it should be replaced. The painted decoration is really beautiful, composed of countless hand-painted miniature motifs. At the top, each sticks shows the image of a figure dressed in old-time clothes and performing different movements, probable some kind of dance. All the figures are standing in front of Oriental-style buildings with trees and gardens. At the bottom of the fan we can see more figures in a landscape background, painted beautifully and in detail. The lacquered finish shows elegant and classic colors with white, black and red details painted by hand on a golden surface.
