Chinese figure in the shape of an elephant tusk made around 1920. This sculpture is in very good condition and there is no plate missing. The tusk stands on a black-lacquered wooden pedestal that boasts an oriental-inspired simple and light design. The piece is quite big, more than half meter long, and its surface bears a nice hand-carving work with different scenes and Chinese ideograms. The article is in superb condition. The carving shows two different designs on each side of the tusk. The front is decorated with three framed scenes, the central one being quite longer than the other two, which are one at each side. The scenes are embossed and so are the frames which surround them. The central image depicts a series of elderly men dressed in traditional clothes, who are accompanied by younger characters, probably children. The small scene on the left depicts another character under a peach-tree brand, while the one on the right shows two smiling kids.On the other side, the central image bears some Chinese ideograms and the smaller scenes on each side seem to depict children too: the left one is carved with a long-haired figure under a flowery tree, and the right one is holding a banner. All the plates under these embossed decorations are delicately engraved with geometrical patterns, which provide the article with even more interest. Overall, this Chinese hand-carved tusk is a striking pieze which will stand out in the most elegant room.Measurements: Length: 535 mm. Height: 195 mm.
